Who We Are!

The Marine Corps League perpetuates the traditions and spirit of ALL Marines, Navy FMF Corpsmen and Chaplains, who proudly wear or who have worn the Eagle, Globe and Anchor of the Corps. It takes great pride in crediting its founding in 1923 to World War I hero, then Major General Commandant John A. Lejeune. It takes equal pride in its Federal Charter, approved by An Act of the Seventy-Fifth Congress of the United States of America and signed and approved by President  Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 4, 1937. The League is the only Federally Chartered Marine Corps related  veterans  organization in the country. Since its earliest days, the Marine Corps League has enjoyed the support and encouragement of the active duty and Reserve establishments of the U. S. Marine Corps. Today, the League boasts a membership of nearly 61,000 men and women, officer and enlisted, active duty, Reserve Marines, honorably discharged Marine Veterans and qualified Navy FMF Corpsmen, Chaplains and is one of the few Veterans Organizations that experiences increases in its membership each year.

The Pierce County Detachment 504 of the Marine Corps League, is one of the fastest growing, actively involved, and proudest detachments in the state of Washington.  We currently have Marines from Korea, Viet Nam, Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.  We have grunts, pilots, communications, clerks, truck drivers, Officers, Staff NCO,s NCO, enlisted, and Corpsmen.  We are proud to have served our Country and Corps, and we are proud to continue to serve with the Marine Corps League.

The Marine Corps League supports many programs, such as The Wounded Marines, U.S. Marines Youth Physical Fitness Program, Veteran Affairs Voluntary Service Programs, and many more.

Our Detachment actively supports the Young Marines Program, The Wounded Warrior Battalion at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Boy Scouts and our most successful program we support is the Pierce County Toys for Tots.

Here in Pierce County, we have grown the size, scope and reach of the local Toys for Tots program more than three-fold since our Detachment took over from the Marine Corps Reserve in 2006, allowing those Marines to concentrate on their wartime missions, and until January of 2016, we had arguably, the most sophisticated, energetic, and most successful program in the state of Washington.  As of 01/2016, AMVETS Post 1 is the sponsoring organization of the Pierce County Toys for Tots program.

We sponsor the Carbon Glacier Young Marines, is a youth program to provide leadership skills, physical fitness, and to build self-confidence.  We also provide proper recognition those Boy Scouts who attain the rank of Eagle Scout.
